Shanghai: China recently successfully experimented with gene therapy for hearing-impaired children. Due to this experiment, the children's hearing was restored.
According to media reports, gene therapy was tested on 5 children who were hearing impaired in Shanghai. After the gene therapy, all the children recovered their hearing. The team of doctors has observed that due to this experiment, the children's ability to speak has also improved.
Additionally, a few kids showed that they could react to music by dancing along with it. Co-senior Researcher Zeng Yichen said in a news release that the results of this gene therapy are surprising.
According to doctors, in this gene therapy, mutated virus was injected into the inner ear of children, whose a shell contained an active copy of the OTOF gene. The children were treated at the I&ENT Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai. And children were observed from 15 to 28 weeks.
